Mizzou Greek Life goes Multicultural
The Many Faces of Greeks and their Traditions
The MU Greek community is large, vibrant and based on tradition. What many do not realize, is it is also a community that it is represented by many people of different backgrounds, cultures and races that contribute to the diversity and vibrancy of the community and its traditions. Fifty-two organizations from PHA, IFC and NPHC make up the Greek community. However, with there are also multicultural Greeks such as the sisters of multicultural sorority Delta Xi Nu Mu Colony and the brothers of Kappa Pi Beta Asian Interest Fraternity Inc. that are making a name for themselves on campus and showcasing their traditions. The Greek chapters of IFC and PHA are known for having traditions of decorating their beautiful houses during Homecoming, celebrating Greek Week in April, and having a "little" or "big" sister or brother. The NPHC and multicultural Greeks have traditions of having probates, strolling, stepping, and saluting. Together, these Greeks create a diverse, lively community with their members and traditions.
